MARGARET RAY JAMES -
illustrator
Margaret James grew up in Concord, North Carolina where she found plenty of quiet room to dream, an old library to get lost in and lots of loving family that thought being creative was a vital part of everyday existence.
She received an Associates Degree in Commercial Art, majoring in Advertising Design from Central Piedmont Community College and a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree, majoring in Art with Illustration and Art History concentrations from the University of North Carolina, Charlotte.
Her fine art works have been exhibited in solo exhibitions, regional juried exhibitions throughout the southeast and are in the collections of corporate and private collectors.
Margaret began her art career as a fashion illustrator for Belk Store Services, she also taught art history and design for seven years at a regional technical college. She now devotes her energy to illustration, operating a full service illustration studio ~ Margaret James Illustration ~ which specializes in hand generated and digital illustration and design.
Children’s book illustration has become the primary focus in her business. Recent titles illustrated by Margaret James include: Thank You, Moses, Thank You, Paul, and Thank-You Esther published by Bay Light Publishing; Discover Glass by Carol Baldwin; and Fire In Her Hair, published by Hidden Path Publications.
Margaret is a member of The Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, and is a card-carrying public library advocate who writes and paints in her spare time. She is married, has two children and lives in North Carolina.
